What stainless steel can be used to make tableware?

Although stainless steel has many advantages, not all stainless steel can be used to make tableware. Stainless steel is divided into many different types, and each type of stainless steel has different functions. Especially for stainless steel used to make tableware, there are strict requirements and regulations.

After being made into tableware, stainless steel will come into direct contact with food. If it does not meet the standards, it is very likely to endanger our health. Therefore, my country also has strict regulations for food and stainless steel that are in direct contact with food.

At present, only stainless steel that meets the national mandatory standard GB4806.9-2016 "National Food Safety Standard Metal Materials and Products for Food Contact" can be called food-grade stainless steel. In this standard, the upper limit of the migration of five heavy metals, arsenic, cadmium, lead, chromium and nickel in stainless steel products under specific measurement methods is limited.

The 304 stainless steel we are more familiar with is a food-grade stainless steel that can be used to make ordinary prescription bulk utensils. In addition, there is 316 stainless steel. The nickel content of 316 stainless steel is higher than that of 304, so it is more corrosion-resistant. In addition, other elements are added during the production process. Therefore, this 316 stainless steel is mainly used in the food industry or surgical equipment.

When we buy stainless steel tableware or other kitchen utensils, we must check whether it is marked with 304 or 316. Other types of stainless steel must not be purchased, especially inferior stainless steel, which is likely to contain some heavy metal elements, which is also very harmful to our health.
